Gordon Fee on the Apostle Paul
11/20/2008
Gordon Fee’s IVP commentary on the book of Philippians has a sentence that struck me deeply. Here it is:
“Here is one for whom the gospel is bigger than his personal role in making it known.”
Oh, that I would see the greatness of the gospel like Paul did. Romans 12:3 says, “For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.”
The gospel is God’s answer to a lost world.
NYC meets Kentucky
11/18/2008
I’m a city girl. A New York City girl. And almost every weekend my travels take me to a different city. This past weekend I was in Paintsville, Kentucky, in the Appalachian Mountains. This is about the fourth time I’m with this sweet group who hold a semi-annual conference called “Victorious Women.” Every time I’m with them I fall more in love with them. What is it about these particular women that makes me want to be with them more and more? (more…)
Dámaris’s Mother Update
11/10/2008
Thank you all so much for praying. Here’s a quick update: Dámaris’s mother, Rev. Aimee Cortese sailed through triple bypass surgery on Thurs, 11/6/08 with great success. The glory and praise belong to the Lord!! Her heart was very strong throughout, and returned to “normal” beating within three hours of the surgery. Apparently, that can take up to 48 hours, so three hours is a GIFT from our precious Savior!! She was even sitting in a chair (albeit uncomfortably) the next morning!
We are rejoicing with her and for the Lord’s work. We are just back from Houston, and leaving for Kentucky on Wednesday, so we cannot spend as much time with her as we would like. However, she should be out of the hospital when we get back from KY. Praise the Lord.
Spurgeon on Scripture
11/04/2008
The great 19th-century preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon said of Scripture: “True Bible-readers and Bible-searchers never find it wearisome. They like it least who know it least, and they love it most who read it most. They find it newest who have known it longest, and they find the pasture to be the richest whose souls have been the longest fed upon it. When one of our missionaries (more…)
Dámaris’s mom in hospital
11/03/2008
We covet the prayers of all of our friends for Damaris’s mother, Rev. Aimee Cortese.
Damaris’s mother, was admitted to the hospital today for a catheterization of the heart. With that test, it was determined that several arteries around her heart were blocked, and she is in need of triple bypass surgery. Since she (more…)
