Someone contacted me discussing a family member’s anger with the Lord in reaction to suffering a setback with his singing ability.  With some editing, I’d like to share what I wrote to that person:
I don’t think I would be exaggerating if I said that what I have left of my voice is but a shell of what it used to be.  However, I would not trade what the Lord has made real to me in my limitations for the best voice on the planet.
The Lord can handle his anger and disappointment with God.  He is not the first nor will he be the last to be upset at what the Lord has allowed to come through His hand of permission (Romans 11:36).  I also know that praying and fasting for this situation is probably the best thing you could do on his behalf.  It’s a mystery, but heaven moves on behalf of those who call on the name of the Lord. Through fasting, I recently experienced a great victory with someone when I realized that discussions, arguments, etc. was getting us nowhere.
Another thing the Lord has made very real to me is that a voice will change no one.  It’s only the power of God working through us that can make a difference in the hearts of people when we minister in music.
I recently purchased a book by Ravi Zacharias that I think might be good for him to read.  The link below will take you to it.
Ravi Zacharias International Ministries Store – Has Christianity Failed You?
We serve a big God who can handle anything.  May the Lord strengthen your faith to believe that God is working in your family member’s life even when it doesn’t appear to be that way.  Let’s walk by faith and not by sight.

Has a sudden change in your life caused you to doubt God’s watchfulness over you?  We live in a fallen world.  Disappointments and trials will come.  Jesus Christ promised that.  To him that overcomes by faith, though, God has promised eternal life.  …for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.  Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5:4-5 TNIV

  1. Isn’t that what faith is about: trusting that God is loving when He doesn’t seem loving? Trusting that God is good when all you experience is evil? Trusting that God is in control when it seems all the world is falling apart? This seems to me to be the essence of the book of Job. I’m finding that in spite of the lack of emotionally unsatisfying answers to suffering, Job is an excellent book in that it builds my faith in God who is beyond my understanding. When bad things happen, my view of God may become skewed. However, I will continue to trust Him anyway, because even though I don’t see the whole picture, I’ve seen Him enough to know He is all He says He is.
