I’ve always been deeply blessed by the ministry of Damaris Carbaugh, not just by the words she sings but by how deeply she feels them! Her music always points us beyond ourselves to Christ, who is the focus of her life and ministry. Let her bless you with her songs of inspiration and hope! — Dr. Erwin Lutzer, Moody Church, Chicago

Kids are the BEST!

11/17/2009

img065Little nine-year-old Katie Houston proudly presented this lovely drawing to me this weekend in Virginia. She had been busy drawing, but also apparently thinking about Jesus, too. Look over this artwork and smile with me! How beautiful it is the way that a child pours love and affection so purely without guile or selfishness.  She handed this to me with an all giving, no taking attitude.

I often muse about a child’s awe at a Barney or Mickey Mouse-costumed actor at a theme park.  Little kids are completely lost in their wonderment for their larger-than-life cartoon hero.  They are not concerned about being noticed or affirmed.  They beam with excitement simply to be in the presence of the furry beast, without any of the cynicism that we develop as we get “older and wiser.”

“…unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.,” Jesus said.  Can we do that?  Will we do that?

  2. I have no children of my own, but over my life time as I’ve taken care of nieces and nephews and other people’s children…I am humbled each time I see babies through young childhood they always want to see, smell, touch, taste, and hear everything, and you’re right, they are so giving, too. How so many times as adults we get so caught up in our work, our errands, our housework, things we need to get done on our to-do lists, and we forget to take the time to just sit and listen, or smell the flowers, or smell the fresh air, or just really look at nature…God’s creation and appreciate all that God has given us, and just have that desire to really seek Him and get to know Him. Children are a blessing from the Lord, and even as adults, we can learn so much from them.
Thanks for sharing Damaris! Love and Peace!

  3. That is so very precious, I am learning so much in school about children’s development and their ways of thinking. I am going to school to be an elementary teacher. I am so excited and can not wait to be done with school. This semester I had taken my first education class, we had to do a classroom and child observation, it was a great experience, I did it at my niece’s old pre school. I love children so much and they are a blessing in so many ways and touch our lives so much!
