Damaris Carbaugh is one of the most moving musicians I’ve ever encountered. Her voice is a unique mix of mellow tones and soothing harmonic charm that one doesn’t encounter often. More importantly, the anointing on her life to deliver God’s word through song is evident not merely by the way she sings but the way she lives. She and her family are a gift to the body of Christ. — Priscilla Shirer, Bible teacher & author

This last spring, our daughter, Ashley (27), was able to go with us to Word of Life Argentina (Palabra de Vida) and fell in love.

Not like that… with the people there.

They loved her, too, and invited her to come and teach jr. high and high school math for their next semester in the bilingual missionary school.  Click “more” and let her tell you in her own words:

A few weeks ago, I went with friends to an amusement park about 2 hours away from my house.  I ran into one of my former students, who was not the easiest 7th grader to work with, to put it lightly.  When she saw me, she ran into my arms and started sobbing and confessing all that she had been through over the past 3 years – in and out of drug rehabilitation programs and homosexual relationships.  She is now 16-years-old, looking for a church in her new hometown, and she understands that without God she would not have made it through the past few years.  This confirmed to me that my calling is to Christian Education, where I am able to pray with my students and point them to Christ.  Little did I know that I would be called to Christian Education in a different country.

This past April, my mother was invited to sing at the Instituto Bíblico Palabra de Vida (Word of Life Bible Institute) in San Miguel del Monte, Argentina.  I had the wonderful privilege of accompanying my parents on this trip.  Since I am a teacher, I was given a tour of the Escuela Cristiana Misionera (Christian Missionary School), which was started over 25 years ago to educate the children of the Bible Institute students.

Now, it includes Kindergarten through 12th grade and is the bridge between the Bible Institute and the people of Monte, because over 80% of the students are from the community where their parents believe private education is their best option.  The missionary teachers of the English program of this bilingual school are not compensated by the tuition and all raise their own support.  They understand that their purpose is to share the love of Christ with each and every student and to make sure they play a role in adding these students to the Lamb’s Book of Life.

I was offered a position while there, but was hesitant at first, because I wanted to be absolutely sure that’s where God wanted me.  After several months of praying, though, and seeking the counsel of many who I respect spiritually, God in His mercy made it very real to me that I was to go to Argentina and serve there for such a time as this.

That being said, in approximately two weeks, I will be heading to San Miguel del Monte, Argentina to teach math to 8th, 10th, and 12th graders for the upcoming semester (Aug. 2 – Dec. 10).  Because I will be there for four months, I need to raise $3,600 that will cover room & board, a visa, and a small stipend for other expenses.  If you are able to make a financial donation to Word of Life to support this short term missions trip, please use the attached support form.  Contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law and are made with the understanding that Word of Life has complete discretion and control over the use of all donated funds.  If I am unable to participate, the trip is cancelled, or the trip is overfunded, those funds will be used to support the ministry in Argentina.  If you are unable to make a donation, please remember to pray that God would have His way in my life and in the lives of those I will be ministering to.

We will never truly understand, till we meet our Lord face-to-face, the impact of your prayers and/or your financial gifts in the spreading of His matchless Gospel.

Because He lives,

Ashley Rose Carbaugh

  1. Praise the Lord for what He is doing in your life, and for opening up this wonderful opportunity for you to serve Him in Argentina. I know that you will be a blessing to those children at that school in Argentina, and I will keep you in my prayers. May God bless you richly for your willingness to go and serve Him.
