I’ve met a lot of people who have a great heart for Christ, and I’ve met a few people who are gifted artists in song. Rarely have I met someone who embodies both of these strengths in such a complete way as Damaris Carbaugh. If you like good, Christ-honoring music from a gifted artist with passion, depth, and flair, then you’ll love Damaris’ ministry! — Joe Stowell, President, Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids MI

Dámaris and I are on a whirlwind tour of Central America with Dr. Joe Jordan and Word of Life (Palabra de Vida).  Well, if you could have seen us in the Palabra de Vida (PDV) van in Mexico City, it was more like watching grass grow than a whirlwind, but we have been doing two-a-days since we landed Friday night in Mexico.  A brunch Saturday morning with nearly 300, a concert that night in a theater, then Sunday morning in a church, Then, Sunday night in the beautiful PDV facility in Queretaro, Mexico that the Lord provided.  A “mir-ACK-el” as Leo Di Gilio, the director, describes it.

Months ago Dámaris was contacted to sing at a pastors’ wives’ brunch sponsored by a Philadelphia Christian radio station, WFIL.  The speaker was to be Jill Briscoe.  We jumped at the opportunity to hear Jill again, and confirmed right away.  The event was scheduled for October 20th, yesterday.

Last Thursday, we got a call from our dear friend, Sara Dormon, who told us that Jill was stuck in New Zealand with her husband, Stewart, who had fallen ill and was not well enough to travel back to the states just yet.  ”Would you consider speaking to the pastors’ wives as well as singing?” No pressure, of course!  Jill Briscoe is one of our favorite speakers of all time.  Godly, powerful, wise, and with that refined British accent, she could say, “Drop dead!” and you would feel privileged!

Well, Dámaris agreed to speak.  No one can fill Jill Briscoe’s shoes, of course, and although Dámaris has never been a pastor’s wife, the Lord arranged it so that she could stand in the gap and bring a message of encouragement to 100 of them who came to hear someone else.

For years, the most sought-after bassist for recordings in LA was Abraham Laboriel.  A precious Christian, he and his wife Dr. Lyn Laboriel have visited our church on several occasions, and he has blessed us with his music and his even sweeter spirit.

Yesterday at Manhattan Grace Tabernacle was one of those times.  Abraham brought two friends, a Brazilian pianist named Jetro da Silva and a drummer friend named Francisco Mora.  Jetro is a Berklee College of Music professor, as well as a seminary student.  Francisco played with Abraham in his first band in Mexico, 40 years ago.

In an impromtu moment, they asked Dámaris to join them and sing “Great is thy Faithfulness.”  To listen, click on MORE below and enjoy:
